WASHING
1 - Fill a container with cold or lukewarm water (30 celcius)
2 - Add delicate soap
3- Put the hat inside out in the soapy water, leave in water for about 15 minutes.
2 - Remove excess water without wringing. Roll in a towel and press to remove water.
3- Lay flat to dry on a towel in the shape you want it to be (blocking).
4- If a hat is stretched out you can also put it in the dryer inside out two minutes at a time, some yarns barely shrink and some shrink super fast!
PILLING
1 - If there are big pieces of pill pull gently and cut them with a scissor, carefully.
2 - Then use a lint remover (ex. Gleener) I use the bigger softer part since the stitches are usually big on my hats. Or the small soft part, no the one with the little metal indentation.
3 - Any rubbing against other fabrics creates more pilling, be it a sofa, a coat etc.
STORING
1 - When storing for summer (I don't do it myself but if you want to do everything right) Wash and dry, and store it in a breathable fabric bag (cotton or linen) with a lavender pouch or cedar ball.
This guide may be intimidating, remember a hat doesn't need to be wash very often and if you do just one or two of those things your hat will look better!
